Live Near a Castle!

ECES students stay in the Komenského dormitory near the Prague Castle, a ten-minute walk to the castle and a twenty-minute tram ride to the historic Old Town Square. The dormitory offers conveniences that any student would need to live and study abroad.

Situated in a residential area, the dormitory is within walking distance to grocery stores, restaurants, mini-markets, and a post office. In close proximity to public transportation, students can easily access the university and other locations throughout Prague.

Suite-Style Living

Single and double rooms are available with a shared bathroom and kitchenette with a refrigerator and a hot plate for two adjacent rooms. Singles are available on a first come-first served basis.

Rooms

All rooms have a twin bed, desk, wardrobe, and a nightstand with a lamp. Bedding, pillows, and towels are provided. Kitchen utensils are not provided. Items can be purchased or borrowed from the university dorm (based on availability).

24-Hour Residential Assistance

Mrs. Zuzana Wienerova, the Resident and Cultural Coordinator, is available to ECES students for any help that they may need during their stay in the dormitory. She provides support with medical emergencies, advice on places to see, and organizes weekly cultural activities.

Breakfast

A light European style cold breakfast buffet is included and is available on weekdays from 7:30am until 10:00am. The breakfast includes: juice, coffee, milk, cereal, cold meats, cheese, hard boiled eggs, vegetables, fruit, bread, and yogurt. Vending machines are also available on the ground floor.

Community Room

The community room contains a full kitchen with a stove, oven, and microwave. There is also a small lounge area with a flat screen TV.

A gym is available for use on the ground floor. The gym contains free weights and an elliptical machine. A small fee is required.

Internet

Internet is available in each dorm room through a cable. The cost per semester is approximately 300-400 CZK (approximately 20 USD) and may be purchased (cash only) during dorm check-in. Wi-Fi is unavailable in the dorm. There is no computer lab available at the dormitory.  Students should bring their own laptop or students may use the computers at Charles University during the weekdays. 

Gated Entry

Entrance to the dorm requires a Charles University ID to be swiped at the front entrance of the building. A front desk attendant is available at all times in case a student needs assistance.  All students will receive an ID card within the first week of the program.

Housing Fee

On-Campus: To apply for accommodation, please fill out the housing application form. Single rooms are available on a first come-first served basis. Breakfast is included (weekdays only).

Note: The ECES Program reserves the right to change the housing fee before the application deadline if the exchange rate fluctuates by more than 10%. 

Cancellation Policy

Deadline to Cancel Housing: 40 days before the official arrival day.

In order to cancel the university housing reservation with a 100% refund, please submit a written cancellation request to ECES no later than 40 days before the ECES official arrival date. The request must be sent by e-mail to eces@ff.cuni.cz. You will receive a confirmation e-mail from the ECES Program.  Payment will be returned in the manner in which you submitted it within four to six weeks minus the bank transfer fee (if submitted by bank transfer).

If you cancel the housing after this deadline, you will be charged a contractual penalty equaling the deposit.

Off-Campus Housing

Students may elect to find housing on their own. Several students find their own accommodation in a shared apartment or studio in the center. ECES does not provide off-campus housing assistance, but we can direct students to the appropriate websites. If this option is chosen, students are responsible for securing the housing confirmation documents required for the visa application.
